Frequently Asked Questions - Hypnotherapy
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that deals with the subconscious mind. It employs the power of positive suggestion along with other techniques to help you to change your thought processes, beliefs, habits and behaviour.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of the human brain that, together with a help of the therapist, can help change a person’s mental, physical and emotional state. Hypnosis is not a state of sleep. Throughout the day all of us can experience this natural state which occurs quite subconsciously when we are “switching off” from our main task – focus fades and our thoughts drift away. At this moment we are starting to daydream and our mind experiences a trance-like state. Sometimes we will still carry on performing certain tasks without necessarily registering them consciously. A good example of such a state would be driving along a familiar road and not registering the route for a period of time.
How does a typical session work?
During the initial consultation, in a safe environment, we will discuss in details your personal issue and identify SMART goals
S - specific
M - measurable
A - achievable
R - realistic
T - time bound
In order to ensure progress, it is recommended that follow-up sessions are held on a weekly basis. At the start of each session I will listen to your feedback from the previous week, following this with a therapeutic session applying relevant techniques agreed and explained to you in advance.
How many sessions do I need?
Every client is different and every issue is approached individually. During the initial consultation an individual treatment plan will be designed and an initial number of sessions will be agreed. This will be reviewed during each follow up session by assessing progress and changing the number of sessions accordingly. For “smoking cessation” treatments usually one 2 hours’ session is sufficient. For other issues four to six sessions are recommended to achieve long lasting goals.
How can hypnotherapy help you?
Hypnotherapy is a non-invasive alternative form of therapy. The flow of negative and troubling thoughts can be altered, unhelpful habits can be unlearned and you can change the beliefs you have about yourself; choose the kind of life you want with the help of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can assist with some types of neuroses including generalised anxiety disorders, phobias and panic attacks. It can help to boost confidence and raise self-esteem. Sleep issues, exam nerves, public speaking, and weight loss can all be addressed with hypnotherapy.
